CASSELTON ROBERT MILLER REGIONAL AIRPORT RUNWAY IMPROVEMENTS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
The Casselton Regional Airport Authority (CRAA) has published a draft federal Environmental Assessment (EA) for Runway Improvements at the Casselton Robert Miller Regional Airport. In accordance with its responsibilities under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is the lead federal agency for the EA. During the EA process, the CRAA and its consultant evaluated the environmental, economic, and social impacts of the proposed development according to US DOT and FAA guidance and thresholds of significance. No significant impacts were identified. The results of the analysis are published in the Draft EA document, linked below. The document is also available for public review in person through April 24, 2026, at the Casselton Public Library.

The Draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of improvements to Runway 13/31, including a relocation of the runway and taxiways, a possible runway extension up to a total length of 5,500 feet, and the realignment of 39th Street SE. The project includes acquiring approximately 250 acres of fee simple land and potential impacts to an estimated 0.5 acres of wetlands under United States Army Corps of Engineers jurisdiction.
A public open house will be held on April 14, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. CDT at the Casselton Veterans Memorial Auditorium. A brief presentation will be given at 5:30 p.m., with a formal public hearing opening immediately following the presentation. The purpose of the meeting is to provide information about the project and its potential impacts. The public hearing portion of the event will provide an opportunity for individuals to offer oral testimony for the official record. Written comments may also be submitted. All oral testimony and written comments received will be included in the administrative record for the EA.
All comments must be received by 11:59 p.m. CDT on April 24, 2026. Written comments can be submitted using the online comment form, in person at the public meeting/hearing, by email to sarah.emmel@meadhunt.com, or mailed to:
